#TheVampireDiaries “The Rager” Recap: Learn to be a Good Vampire!

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! (You’ve Been Warned!!!)

Some of you might need some more Kleenex? Yeah, I know, that’s what’s going on when you tuned into the CW last night and watched yet another beautifully emotional second episode of #TheVampireDiaries. From a vampire hunter’s deadly quest to Damon and Elena’s emotionally charged bathroom scene, not to mention a pleasant surprise return, let’s talk about what happened on “Memorial”:

#WelcomeBackTVD! Season 4 Premiere “Growing Pains” Recap: Say Hi to Vampire Elena!

#TVD welcomed a new vampire hunter (Todd Williams) and an old Gilbert friend (Grace Phipps), and as expected, trouble lurked in every corner. The Council’s funeral featured a crucial sacrifice on Matt’s (Zach Roerig) part, when he offered up his own blood to save Elena (Nina Dobrev), but the most emotional moment of the (bloody) episode was saved for the final moments, when the show paid tribute to its dearly departed — prompting a surprise appearance by a fan favorite … YEAH, ALARIC IS BACK!!! 😉

WHAT HAPPENED?

Brothers Duel! 8:03 p.m.: The ongoing duel between the Salvatore brothers continues with Stefan (Paul Wesley) believing Elena can survive on animal blood while Damon (Ian Somerhalder) doesn’t. “Rip off the proverbial baid-aid and let it bleed,” Damon declares. “You’re a vampire, Elena. Be a vampire. Vampires eat people, it’s part of the natural food pyramid. This will come into play later on. Trust me, you’re going to be miserable.”

#Stelena, Sex without the sex! (LOL) 8:04 p.m.: Elena’s vampire senses are on full throttle in the woods with Stefan, and just as things get too far, Elena throws up the animal blood she just digested. Think Damon’s on to something? (Later on in the episode, Damon and Elena have their own “sex-without-the-sex” moment in the episode. See 8:11 p.m.)

#GreysAnatomy “Love the One You’re With” Recap: Can’t Accept the Settlement!

Rejoice, Team #Delena! 8:10 p.m.: Damon senses Elena is struggling to down the animal blood Stefan has persuaded her to digest, so what does he do? Offer up his own blood. Sly, Damon, very sly. As we know, blood-sharing is rather .. personal, so when Elena ultimately agrees to feed on his blood in the privacy of the Mystic Grill bathroom, well, let your imagination run wild. Delena fans, save this scene for posterity.

Watch Out Tyler! 8:13 p.m.: Vampire hunter Connor’s first big move: shooting Tyler (Michael Trevino). Little does he know, Tyler’s a hybrid. Tyler escaping almost certain death plays into the episode later on, when the funeral is held at the church when Connor awaits for a vampire to reveal him or herself.

Bloody Vomit! 8:19 p.m.: This has to be one of the most disturbing scenes, with Elena throwing up massive amounts of blood in the church bathroom. As a pale Elena tries to clean up the blood in the bathroom, it’s Damon who saves the day — and it’s the second meeting between Connor and Damon. Talk about tense.

#AmericanHorrorStory-Asylum Season Premiere Recap: Welcome to the Bloody Creepy Briarcliff!

“She drank from you?” 8:31 p.m.: Oh Damon, way to get a leg up on your brother there. After Stefan sees Damon and Elena outside of the church, and moments after Elena fails to keep down the human blood Damon offered, the elder Salvatore drops the bomb that he and Elena shared some quality time together via blood sharing. Stefan: “She drank from you?” Damon: “Oops, did I say that out loud?”

Poor Elena! 8:36 p.m.: Blood from the seriously injured April drips down from the church balcony, and all the vampires/hybrids can smell it. It’s a trap set by our good ol’ vampire hunter tempting them to reveal themselves so he can eliminate them. After a few tense moments, it’s Tyler who saves the day — and Elena’s ex Matt who pays it forward by letting her feed on his blood. “Thank you,” Elena says afterward. Wonder how Matt feels.

OMG Tyler!!! 8:40 p.m.: Bang! It’s the moment Tyler’s shot by Connor’s special bullets. Everyone’s shocked but .. don’t worry people, he’s OK.

Sucker Punch! 8:45 p.m.: After Connor escapes after a physical fight with Damon, Stefan punches his brother in the face. Damon: “What the hell was that for?!” Stefan: “You know what.”

#Homeland “New Car Smell” Recap: Carrie’s in Action, Brody’s Captured by the CIA, Secretly!

Vampire Elena’s Lost Control. 8:46 p.m.: Caroline (Candice Accola) saves Elena from killing April after the newest vampire smells blood, desperate to feed on her. A touching moment between friends. Elena compels April to forget the traumatic events of the day, as she steps further and further away from her human life.

Nice Tattoo! 8:49 p.m.: Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is the only one who can see Connor’s arm tattoo. Hmm.

Alaric-Damon #Bromance! 8:55 p.m.: Arguably the biggest moment if the episode comes when Damon, spending another late night alone, drinks his sorrows away while voicing his troubles at Alaric Saltzman’s (Matt Davis) grave site. (The moment comes after the entire group says farewell to everyone from Jenna and Vicki to Grams and Lexi.)

#Dexter “RUN” Recap: Dexter Finally Killed Speltzer, And This Time Deb Felt So Glad About it!

It’s a human moment Damon has, not because of subject of his rants, but because of who appears during this seemingly one-sided conversation. The sight of the former high school teacher may be one of the season’s best scenes — ever. Everyone in Mystic Falls leads ill-fated lives, but Damon’s rant puts everything into perspective: “I should be long gone by now.” (Dead) Alaric: “I miss you too buddy.”

SOME THOUGHT:

– This episode brought us back to what we love about this show. It had lust, angst, blood, violence, humor, and heart. It made you cry, it made you scream and it hit you with so many feels that sitting down to write this review today is really difficult

– The memorial scene at the end was beautifully done and had me in tears, but Jeremy listing all his dead girlfriends made me laugh. There are just so many of them. Poor Jeremy

– All in all, this episode was a favorite and definitely needs to be watched again. Things are developing quickly this season, I mean look at what has happened in just two episodes! The love triangle is alive and kicking and so is Matt Donovan who had his first hero moment of the season last night, when he let Elena feed from him. Go team Matt! 😉

That’s all folks. That’s enough to make you grab some more Kleenex, right? Anyway, what were your favorite scenes and which ones did we miss? Hit the comments below! 😉
